Lahaul is a relatively green valley north of the Rohtang La, as we travel east into Spiti the landscape
transforms into a rugged network of interlocking river valleys hidden in the rain shadow of the Himalayas. Its 12000 sq km of snow- topped mountains and high altitude desert, punctuated by tiny patches of greenery and villages of whitewashed mud brick houses clinging to the sides of rivers and melt water streams. Access to Lahaul & Spiti district by road can be made from two different locations one is Sumdo through (Kinnaur District) for entry into Spiti valley and another is through Manali (Kullu District) for entry into Lahaul valley.
The remote tracts of Kinnaur, Lahaul & Spiti are bound together by a rich Cultural tradition, rivers, steep mountains, valleys and passes. All essential Facilities are available at these remote places due to network of motor able Roads. Sarahan, gateway to Kinnaur, is revered as one of the shakti peeths and the seat of power of the Bushair rulers.
Day 01 : Manali - Batal (100 kms)
Travel by jeep from Manali to Batal over the Rohtang Pass (lies at an elevation of 3980 m). Batal is a scenic village at the foot of the Kunzum pass in Lahaul and Spiti District. Overnight in tents at Batal.
Day 02 : Batal - Kaza (88 kms)
In the exotic valley of Spiti is located the hill station of Kaza. Travel by jeep from Batal to Kaza by jeep over the Kunzam Pass (4558 m). Overnight in tents at Kaza.
Day 03 : Kaza
Kaza is bifurcated into two – old town and new town. Morning visit the Ki monastery the most renowned and biggest monastery, around 11 kms from Kaza. This centuries – old gompa is a labyrinth of rooms and corridors. It houses valuable thangkas and offers a panoramic view of the area. Also visit the small gompa at Kibber, 9 kms further ahead. Kibber at 4205 m has the distinction of being the highest permanently inhabited village of the region. Overnight in tents at Kaza.
Day 04 : Kaza
An excursion visiting Pin Valley located in the cold desert of Spiti Valley it is known as "the grey grey ghost of Himalayas", the land of Ibex and Snow Leopards. Also visit an old monastery Kungri monastery where 60 Lamas still live at the moment in Pin Valley. Overnight in tents at Kaza.
Day 05 : Kaza – Tabo (48 kms)
Visit a small town Tabo-Travel by jeep from Kaza to Tabo enroute visiting Dhankar gompa. This gompa rests high over the valley and is a stupendous example of local architecture. Founded in 996 AD by the great teacher Richensang-po, Tabo is renowned for its breathtaking murals and stucco images – and is often called "The Ajanta of the Himalayas". Tabo's sanctity is next only to Tibet's Tholing gompa. Overnight in tents at Tabo.
Day 06 : Tabo – Sangla (185 kms)
Sangla is a popular hill town in Baspa valley of Kinnaur District. Travel by jeep from Tabo to Sangla enroute visiting Nako, built around a lake, this is one of Kinnaur's most charming villages. Travel onwards to Sangla passing Khab, the confluence of the rivers Spiti and Sutlej. On arrival check in at camps. Overnight in camps.
Day 07 : Sangla
The glacial streams and villages located in the region like Chitkul, Karchham and Batseri add to its popularity. One of the popular place is Kamru Fort .Other places of attractions are Sapni, Kanda Trout Farm popular for flowers and Kilba. Return to the camp. Overnight stay in camps..
Day 08 : Sangla – Sarahan (92 kms)
Sarahan is the base for numerous treks and is the gateway to Kinnaur, it is a place of pilgrimage, heaven for nature lovers and temple complex attracts a variety of admirers. Travel by jeep from Sangla to Sarahan. On arrival check in at hotel. Afternoon visit the famous Bhimakali temple complex the tall tower like structure and unsual roof of temple dominate the complex, regarded as one of the Shaktipeeths. Other places to visit are Bird Park a pheasant breeding centre, Bhaba Valley 50 kms from Sarahan it has a beautiful landscape and alpine
meadows. Overnight stay at the camp.
Day 09 : Sarahan – Shimla (184 kms)
This Morning Travel by jeep from Sarahan to Shimla. On arrival check in at hotel. Time freeyou're your own leisure. You can do shopping in the Mall or can visit Christ Church, Jakhu Hill , Shimla State Museum. Return and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 10 : Shimla – Delhi
Time free till you meet the Max Holidays representative at Shimla and will be transferred to the railway station to board your train journey back to Delhi.
